FREE Summer School Days 2015

Join Artemis for FREE (yes really truly FREE!) performing arts workshops and auditions this summer!

We are Ofsted registered, and all our teaching staff are highly qualified. All staff, including support staff, are DBS checked and first aiders always on hand. We create a safe, fun environment to learn and gain skills and confidence!

Every Monday (excluding the bank holiday) we will be at Garth Hill College in the centre of Bracknell, with Acting, Singing, Dancing, Musical Theatre and Cheerleading. Everyone is welcome (subject to age and ability in each class), and there is no catch - come, have fun, come back a few times - enjoy! We offer classes and companies in acting, dance and music during term times - but you do not have to be in one, or join one, to attend these free workshops!

We will also be holding workshop auditions for our production of Les Miserables - you can audition to be in the chorus or leads. Click here for a list of characters. All Artemis Junior Theatre Company and Medusa Teen Theatre Company will be part of the show - so why not join them!

Outline of the workshops:

CHEERLEADING
Ages 8-24 (split into different age groups and ability - see timetable)

Join 'Artemis Elite' and try your hand at cheerleading. A blend of gymnastics and dance, it is high energy, fast paced and will give you a great workout. Matts are provided and the beginners classes (8-11 & 12-19*) will look at some cheer basics, gym, and low level stunts. We have two beginners groups - a teen and pre-teen.

*If you are 11/12 - you can try both if you wish! 7 year olds with dance or gym experience are also welcome in the junior class.

Also on offer is an intermediate class for teen and young adult dancers (our competition team goes up to 24 years) will establish the basics and then move onto harder practice routines with members of our competitive team Artemis Elite. This level would suit someone who has gymnastics and dance training, but maybe hasn't tried cheer before. Suggested age is 11+ - however a 10 year old with a large amount of gym experience may find they are up to the challenge!

If you would like to considered for a place on our current senior team, or in one of our new beginners teams from September, let the coach know at the start of class!

ARTEMIS JUNIOR THEATRE COMPANY
Ages 5-13 (split into three age groups on the day).

Musical Theatre - singing and dance (each week a different musical including Lion King, Matilda, Chicago, Frozen and more) younger groups will focus on younger shows and pre-teens on more grown up material. Learn songs and routines with our lovely staff and older students!

Acting - try your hand at solos, duos and group work. Look at scenes, try devising and work on technique and confidence!

This class is split into three age groups, who will spend an hour on each music, dance and acting.

Older participants (10+) may also want to try our Les Mis audition workshops later in the day with the older teens.

LES MISERABLE AUDITIONS/WORKSHOPS
Ages *10-19

Participants will be split into two or three age groups depending on numbers. Older teens (16-19) will work on the more mature show numbers, younger teens and pre teens will look at family friendly sections of the show. *10 year olds and pre teens are very welcome - but absolute beginners might find it a little fast paced. This is the schools edition of the show - but still deals with difficult themes and is considered a PG.

Singing (group, and solos for anyone auditioning for specific roles), & Acting.

No prep needed would help if you were familiar with the show however (watch the film if you haven't seen the show).

We are currently casting the remaining roles (supporting and lead) for 'Les Miserables', which will rehearse from September and be presented in April 2016 (followed by LAMDA exams). You can attend the workshop for fun - or if you have a part in mind and would like to be considered - let staff know at the start and you may be offered a role!

Anyone offered and accepting a part will need to join either Artemis Junior Theatre Company or Medusa Teen Theatre Company form September. All current company members already have a part guaranteed, but are very very welcome to come and meet the show MD Ron McAllister ahead of the rehearsals in September!

JAZZ DANCE
AGES 8-11 & 12-19

Work with our amazing choreographers on routines and technique! Beginners welcome to try out, this will be a class which will work off some summer ice cream!

We recently started a teenage Jazz company, Artemis Sirens,  who are off to their first competition in July! To celebrate, and because younger  dancers have asked - we will be opening up the teen class to anyone outside Medusa Teen Theatre Company, and also opening a junior version! • Anyone aged under 16 at the time of the workshops will need a parent or guardian to sign them in. They will also be asked to sign a form authorising participation (as these are physical activities).

  • If you are not accompanying your child (for example a 14 year old who is walking in or getting the bus), we will need you to complete the authorization form in advance. For insurance reasons, we can't allow anyone to participate who has not completed this as it make us aware of medical, physical or other issues we need to be mindful of.

  • All actors and dancers should wear suitable clothing for the classes. Socks may not be worn instead of shoes - this is dangerous on wooden floors and you can slip - if you do not have dance shoes, wear plimsoles or other soft shoes with grip.

  • If you are attending for the day - please bring food and drink - our chaperones will not be able to leave the building to go to the shops with you. We prefer any pre-teens not to leave in between classes unless it is with a parent.

  • If you do want your child to go into town for lunch - please send them with a note of permission.

  • We have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to bullies. If anyone makes anyone else upset or threatened, they will be removed at once. Being rude, disruptive or breaking property will also not be tolerated.

  • The school do not allow smoking on the premises.

  • We are an inclusive school - if you have a physical challenge, let us know! We have access to lifts for wheelchair users, and both the Theatre Company classes can accommodate different needs. As long as a student can be autonomous (without a parent/carer on hand) they should be fine to take part.
