Artemis Windsor branch

New Saturday branch with Triple Threat classes

Event Details

Saturday, 15 September, 2012 to Friday, 14 December, 2012

Opened September 15th 2012!

We have a new Saturday branch opening in Windsor for autumn term 2012!

The new branch offers our popular Triple Threat (acting, singing and dancing classes) initially, followed by a Windsor branch of our teen theatre company 'Medusa' in later terms.

To book your place in a FREE trial - call now!

The new Saturday only branch is based in Windsor Youth Centre, on Alma Road (see the map at the bottom of the page), just a five minute walk away from the main high street, buses and trains. There is free car parking on site.

Just like our own studios in Bracknell, the new school has a bright dance studio, and separate spaces for music and drama.

The Windsor staff are all highly trained, with the Drama and Music teachers both holding a PGCE (qualified teacher status) in their subject, and the Dance teacher holds high dance qualifications as well as being a practicing professional. Rebecca Moir, who teaches Drama for Windsor, has also taught at the prestigious Guildford School of Acting, and has extensive experience as both a teacher and stage manager.

The new branch is managed by Claire Keohane, a registered theatrical chaperone, who is also a mother of three. One of Claire's children appears in Oliver (West End tour) at the moment, so she is well placed to help parents with questions. Both of her boys attend our Bracknell branch. Claire will be supported by Artemis Director and owner Niki Robinson, and have the Artemis head office team to call upon, as will all new students.

About the classes

'Triple threat' is an industry term for performers who are proficient in all three disciplines - Acting, Singing and Dancing. An actor who can sing and dance with some confidence has far more job opportunities than one who can't.

  • In drama, children will learn about famous play writers, film makers and stage craft.
  • In music, children work on songs together, and begin to learn basic vocal techniques, musicianship and to read sheet music.
  • For dance, fitness and agility are key, with through warm ups, a routine and the basic steps to build up to devising show dance. The dance is fun and even 'non dancers' will want to take part!

Autumn and Summer terms conclude with a show, which will be produced by the group to be played in a mid scale theatre or other public venue. Spring terms give tutors the chance to workshop on a variety of subjects, with special guests visiting (such as make up artists, song writers, vocal & dialect coaches). Spring is also when we commence rehearsals for the summer show.

In January, Intermediate and Advanced students use the work they have prepared for the Christmas show and take group LAMDA exams. All our current (Bracknell) students have passed previous exams with Merit or Distinction and enjoy the challenge of the exams, as well as the validation they feel when they get their results! It is in no way compulsory for students to take exams however, each child can still fully participate in class without having to attend the exam day (as long as we know in advance and can provide an understudy).

Each Triple Threat class is limited to 16 students to ensure the highest levels of attention and quality of training. The course is taught by male and female staff to ensure balance and sufficient role-modeling. Classes with children under the age of six also have a class mother or 'big sister' to help as well.

A uniform of school T-shirt, leggings or black jazz pants and black jazz shoes is worn.

Beginners Triple Threat:

Suggested ages 5-8 years old (children will need to be able to read, 4 year olds are welcome to try the class if they have basic reading skills).

Intermediate Triple Threat:

Suggested ages 8-11 years old. This is our most popular age group with waiting lists in place in Bracknell! This very lively age group work hard as a team to study at a level usually kept for younger teens! All material is age appropriate, but every child is really challenged, and everyone rises to that challenge!

Advanced Triple Threat:

Suggested ages 11-14 years old (children must be in their first year at senior school as a minimum before moving up into this class). This class studies at a much more advanced level, and materials reflect their age. In our big summer shows, Advanced take the supporting roles alongside our older teens. With most of our shows written for us, it is a chance to really showcase! Our Windsor branch of TT Advance runs for three hours a week (Bracknell Advanced students have a one hour longer day). Once a teen theatre company is established in later terms, Advanced Windsor will have the option of staying for an additional hour each week to study with the older teens like their Bracknell counterparts.

All students will also have the chance to appear at the Windsor Globe annual theatre festival each summer.

Fees and payment information

All three classes run from 1.30 - 4.30pm on Saturdays (term time) and cost £297 per child per 12 week term. Sibling discounts of 10% are available. Full terms and conditions of booking are available to download, and will be available in your welcome pack on the trial day.

Fees are pro rata for those students starting after the first week of any term. We regret we can't offer a reduction in fees for any classes students have to miss unless we have cancelled a class.

Fees are payable upon booking, and may be split into three pieces if required (please ask for a 'split payment' form). Most parents choose to split fees, and we try to make the process as easy as possible! Fees can be settled by debit or credit card, standing order, cash or childcare vouchers. Please note, since the removal of the cheque guarantee scheme we are no longer able to accept cheques.

Partial or full bursary places for talented young people unable to afford the fees may be available - terms and conditions apply and are subject to spaces in class.

First Show

All our new Windsor branch students will join in our large annual Christmas show on 9th December. This is the penultimate week of term for Windsor (which will run a week behind main school for the first term). The final class of term will be 15th December and will have special guests to workshop with students!

Free Trials

You can arrange a FREE trial at any point in the term, and anyone joining mid way into a term will have fees pro-rata to reflect this.  Students coming to trial on our opening day will also be given an additional discount on their first terms fees.
