In depth

Phoenix Senior hip hop crew - taught by award winning director and choreographer Baanji Muteo of Blanc Canvas Dance. The team work with Baanji on various styles and sections for each competitins and have an imput in the final routines.

To join Phoenix, you need talent, stamina, good fitness, and be able to train two hours every week during term time, plus boot camps in the holidays and before competitions. We perform and compete at least 3 times a year, and you need to be able to attend all comps and performances to be on the main team.

Dancers who can't commit to all events will train with the team, but be held as a reserve.

This company travelled to the USA in 2014!

We need people who put being the best above everything. We have a strong social group and are like a supportive family for each other.

Dancers must be ADVANCED LEVEL be between the age of 15-24.

We are looking for stamina, flexibility, hard work, great attitude and a competitive spirit - this is not a fitness class, it is a rehearsal for a championship company aiming for even bigger world wins. We develop talent. If you have it, we want you, and will push you hard. Over 20's accepted if they have sufficient ability. Male dancers also welcome!

We will hold separate auditions for reserves (talented trainees on a separate team who appear at most, but not all events). No prep needed, you will join in the first hour of our weekly rehearsal (including a warm up) and learn a section of routine. Come dressed to dance, including shoes. We start at 7.30pm prompt, latecomers will not be admitted.

You must also be free to practice each week on Thursday nights, and some extra Sundays (before a show or National Competition) and able to commit to the squad for at least twelve months to allow for competition. Rehearsals cannot be missed unless there is serious illness or emergency - all squad members sign a contract agreeing to their full commitment.  'Phoenix' is our senior company, with the Junior company (Phoenix JVs, National Champions 2012,13 & 14) for younger dancers. We also have a group called Fusion, who are invited members of both the senior and junior teams who go to smaller regional competitions like UDO - where we are World Qualifiers.

The evening looks like this;

7.30-8.30 - Phoenix Seniors join the JV's to form a super crew - Phoenix Fusion - who will perform as one big company in Spring at a local dance platform event. Some of the material learnt for this particular show will then be used in the individual teams summer competitions routines. Working with the junior team has two main benefits - it pushes the JV's to keep up with the older dancers, and also allows them to get to know each other and support each other. When a JV is old enough to move up to the seniors - they already know the crew and have friends there. For the Seniors - it allows them to mentor and have an imput in the choreography.

8.30-9.30 - Phoenix rehearse their own routines for summer regional and national events.
